Strappi (Italian for “tears,” “rips,” or “ruptures”) is a photographic project that seeks to create visual fractures within the fabric of contemporary Italian cities. The term evokes both a physical tear and a symbolic break — an interruption in continuity that reveals hidden layers beneath the surface.
Through these visual “rips,” the project exposes tensions, contradictions, and latent narratives embedded in urban space, generating moments of suspension within the apparent coherence of everyday life.
The first edition was developed in the city of Aosta, in the Aosta Valley, as part of the cultural dossier supporting the city’s candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2025
The shooting phase took place at different times of the year, aiming to decontextualize the subjects from their place of origin, showcasing a city that is blended and unique in its diversity: a plural city.
The photos taken during the shooting period were used to create an urban exhibition by utilizing the city's advertising spaces(3x6 mt and 2x1,4 mt), transforming the city of Aosta into an open-air museum.
By passing through the town hall, it was possible to pick up an A3-sized poster with a map of the city and the locations where the works could be found.

The exhibition was open from November 8 to December 5, 2022.
The exhibition was open from November 8 to December 5, 2022.
A video of the operation carried out in the city during the shooting phase was also created.
The displayed photographs were interspersed with some prints featuring the project name and a QR code, which could be scanned with a smartphone to access various useful links for viewing the exhibition.
